Day 10

Wow - Day 10 already!

I now have Namibian dust under my finger-nails, toenails, in every pore and hair follicle.....absolutely African through and through. I go to bed with sandy feet and they are never clean unless I've just stepped out of the shower or the pool. If I was 5 - it would be paradise!

I wonder if Simon knows how many spa sessions I am going to require when I get back to Cape Town to set things right again..... :) Nola would be horrified to see the showers and toilets I have seen (and sometimes used!)

Mind you - this is probably pretty close to paradise. The wildlife is indeed plentiful and you see the most amazing sights and can really appreciate the birdlife. There is a great focus on tourism so the choice of places to stay at is amazing. The people are reserved but friendly and you cannot get closer to nature than the hippo clambering up the river banks where you are camping!

The people we've just met in this camp (no - not the speedo-wearing German's) reckon they've camped in places where the lion were looking at them through the mosquito-net on their tent windows and the elephant raided their bakkie for the fruti!! Thanks goodness for the roof-top tent but that is wayyyy too close for comfort.

We are now in Camp Kwando on the Kwando River, Caprivi and just chilling. Have the ultimate luxury of eating at the Lodge tonight and there is chicken on the menu (funny what you miss!)

Beautiful setting for a pool

  2. Sounds wonderful ! I so hope that you are feeling much better. Did the Stellenbosch slow food market with Suzie today - what fun !! Oh - and great news - Dylan managed to complete his 5 hour glider flight today - so a major step closer to his Glider Licence. Huge excitement on this end. And....those Germans in their Speedos - can't be a great sight. I hope that you aren't scarred for life !! There should be a law against that !! HAve fun - enjoy - and don't let the lions too close - not the hippos either for that matter. Thinking of you LOTS and missing you.

  3. This sounds like quite an adventure, and I am enjoying followng your posts and seeing the pictures. What a fabulous time you must be having, aside from the dirt.
I gave up camping (again;>) after my last trip to Africa, but this sure sounds tempting, and it is the only way to really see the countryside.
