Si: Well Kang to McCarthy's rest border post was more beasts on the road to contend with than I care to describe, plus a couple of sleepy truck drivers. The border was quick and easy (besides a few sleepy border police and an absent custom's lady, we were the only ones present). The gate guard looked in the fridge and asked me if I had any rhino horn (of course not, but sleeping in a rooftop tent - read fornication dangerous - I had another horn problem to contend with).
The road in Botswana was tarred all the way to the border post - imagine our dismay when we were greeted with nearly 200km of gravel on the SA side (read, how to keep McCarthy's Rest border post quiet).
Si: Kuruman was, well Kuruman. Bring back the past, big time. Cheesey music, cheesey furniture & carpets from the Ice Age, but very pleasant people aand good steak too (minute steak for breakfast anyone?!) Upington was also not memorable but we did stop for coffee and found Lyn a desk exactly like the one she used at school (nightmares!!)
We now sit in a lovely guest cottage on Niewoudtville's main street and as it is so quiet, the owners have invited us to the local potjiekos competion at the "hangar" where we can buy a potjie and langarm all at the same time - whooppeedo!!
OK, this isn't the last post as I will have to relate the evenings events of the main event tonight. Later.
I have enjoyed your posts and pictures. I will look forward to seeing the whole collection on Facebook. And I enjoyed all the stories. Lyn, I'll be interested to know how many spa visits it took to 'make things right.'
